Volterra testing new carrier materials for Green Floating Filter
As part of Volterra’s search for more sustainable carrier material we have started a new experiment with 2 types of coconut fibers, one weaven the other densily pressed (see pictures). The goal is to see how the Typha seeds germinate and if they can penetrate the material to form roots below. Once a “carpet” has been formed the hope is that by adding water the total mass will float. This would allow for building new floating filters cheaply at the bottom of irrigation channels and basins without the need for additional plastic carriers. We will regularly report on progress.
